Is Evaluative Conditioning Important? Integration into Impression Formation Research Would Answer this Question

چکیده
Evaluative conditioning (EC) experiments and impression formation experiments study factors that influence evaluation. Despite large overlap between these two research traditions, they often operate in parallel without attention to findings and theories from the other line of research, risking redundancy. We suggest reintegrating EC research into impression formation as the branch of research that investigates the effect of stimulus co-occurrence distinct from the effects of other relational information. Most learning episodes include stimulus co-occurrence and other relational information (e.g., viewers learn that Batman co-occurs with crime and that he fights crime). Therefore, EC research is important to the extent that the influence of stimulus cooccurrence on evaluation is not overridden by the effects of other relational information. We review initial evidence suggesting that co-occurrence influences evaluation over and above other relational information, and report two experiments that demonstrate empirical directions for studying the effects of co-occurrence versus other relational information.

Iran’s Resistance Economy and Regional Integration
Iran’s ‘resistance economy’ is sometimes presented as defensive strategy. Despite Washington’s ‘New Middle East’ wars and the rapid evaporation of expected benefits from the long JCPOA (nuclear deal) process, a certain illusion remains that a general ‘normalisation’ with the outside powers might still bring economic benefits to the country. Nevertheless, it remains true that, while Iran is a la...

This article provides a review of past and contemporary debates regarding the role of awareness in attitude formation through evaluative conditioning (EC), that is, by repeatedly pairing a stimulus with other stimuli of positive or negative valence. Because EC is considered the most prototypical method to form and change the network of evaluative associations in memory, the role of awareness in...
متن کاملThe Role of Evaluative Conditioning in Attitude Formation
In this article, we address how attitudes are acquired. We present evaluative conditioning (EC) as an explanation for attitude formation and attitude change. EC refers to changes in liking due to pairings of affectively meaningful and neutral stimuli. We discuss four different theoretical accounts of EC and outline current issues and avenues for future research.

This study presents a model for the strategic development of human resource based on competencies model. In fact, the main question of this research is: What are the affec...
متن کاملThe evaluative response: primitive but necessary.
We do not believe the claim that "evaluative conditioning is a qualitatively distinct form of classical conditioning" [Davey (1994). Behaviour Research and Therapy, 32, 291-299]. We view all classical conditioning as a learning process which leads organisms to assign a positive or negative value to previously neutral stimuli and to respond to them accordingly. The evaluative response is a neces...
